Stamp Act Debate

Activity Three
The elected officials of your county have issued a stamp tax to help pay for building a new school. A twenty-five-cent tax (fee) will be collected every time you borrow or use a library book, use a piece of paper (including napkins and paper towels), and turn in a note or assignment to your teacher. Your teacher will be assigning each student to be either an elected official or a student in the school.  Based on your assignment, you will have to write a brief argument for or against this new tax. Use you knowledge learned from the Stamp Act of 1765. Think about how you would feel if you were being taxed for these items. A debate will be held giving time for each of you to express your opinion. Your classroom teacher will decide whether or not to repeal the Stamp Act based upon the most persuasive arguments.
