We will examine some of the many aspects in which Boston served as a major center in the Abolitionist movement by:
- reading about William and Ellen Craft, two slaves who escaped bondage and devoted their lives to abolishing slavery.
- learning about Lewis Hayden, whose home served as a safe house on the Underground Railroad.
- understanding some risks Abolitionists took in assisting slaves.
- realizing the impact of the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850.
