The Task |
| You will analyze primary sources and supporting websites as you proceed with your research about the 54th regiment. Acting as a member of the Massachusetts 54th, you will write and illustrate information to create a picture book based on your research, tracing major events, battles and members in the history of the regiment as well as a poem, painting and sculpture. You will follow the storyboard for layout and design. The text should be written so that grades 2-5 may understand the context. Pictures may be downloaded (with citations) and/or original drawings as well as original copies of primary sources. |
You will investigate what it was like in the 54th regiment, analyze the various points of view and consider how the regiment was represented in art and other sources. You will then consider whether or not you would have enlisted in the colored 54th regiment of Massachusetts to serve your country in war. |
