Women's rights cartoonYour assignment was to discover what effect the National Women’s Rights Convention of 1850 might have had on public perceptions of women’s roles in society.

The women’s rights movement was a long journey in our nation’s history. This lesson focused on one event in one location – Worcester, Massachusetts, as one step to the many other conventions that took place around the country in the next 50 years leading up to the passage of the 19th Amendment.  How did women in America obtain their rights and how do they secure them today?  Why should we understand the goals and effects women fought for in the 1850s?  How can we use this as an example for the disenfranchised today?
