ACTIVITY FOUR

Congratulations!! You have now completed your journey back through time!  You have researched what life was like for African Americans living in Massachusetts before, during and after the 1783 ruling.  You also saw how African Americans viewed themselves during these time periods.  Even though your time traveling has come to an end, your job has only just begun.  You now need to share with me everything you found out!!

In groups, you will be completing the following:

  1. Using the information you gathered, you will be completing one Venn Diagram comparing and contrasting life for African Americans in Massachusetts from 1774 - 1828

  2. As a whole class, we will be sharing the information from everyone’s Venn Diagrams and make a whole class Venn Diagram.
  3. What have you discovered about the effect of the ruling?

ACTIVITY FIVE

In small groups you will be creating a picture book showing what the life of an African American living in Massachusetts between the years 1774-1828.  Through your book, you will show what life was like for African Americans before, during and after the 1783 ruling and the ruling’s impact, if any.
