Introduction

You are a member of the Wampanoag tribe.  You were a young child when the first strangers (Colonists) arrived.  You remember how the Pilgrims depended on your tribes’ help and friendship.  Your Sachem, Massasoit, was very kind to these early Colonists.  Now it’s 1675 and you are an adult.  Massasoit has died but he made sure that his two sons, Wamsutta and Metacom, learned English ways.  Wamsutta died in 1660, shortly after succeeding his father.  Metacom (now called King Philip) suspected the English of foul play in his brother’s death.  Metacom has many grievances over how the colonists are treating his people and this leads to King Philips War.
